Wal-Mart’s Motives

Editor’s note: Recall history, it was Wal-Mart who first offered such a restrictive health care policy that government officials and employers alike were caught off guard. The numbers of Wal-Mart employees that were on government health plans was astounding. Ever since, they have been trying to reclaim positive perception of their enterprise. Given this history and the abundance of people that they employee, it is likely their business analysis that they would rather ‘share’ the cost with taxpayer than to pay for a share of health commensurate with what other employers pay.

Wal-Mart is the latest in a line of traditionally Republican-leaning businesses to embrace key portions of President Barack Obama’s bid to overhaul health care, a trend that could complicate opponents’ efforts to build a united front when Congress ramps up its work on the issue this summer.
