The State of Nursing

Editor’s note: the following does not paint a promising picture for health care reform.

====

According to an online poll of 14,993 nurses from March 31, 2008 to June 5, 2009:
  • 49.5% of the respondents wouldn’t feel confident about having someone they care about get treatment at their hospital or clinic
  • 71.9% said that they don’t feel their unit has sufficient staffing in place
  • 51.2% said that quality of care on their units had fallen over the past year
  • 52.7% of respondents are thinking about leaving their jobs
  • Of those, 42.2% cited inadequate staffing as a reason

  1. Thank you for posting these ANA statistics – health care is truly in crises right now, we should know: we interact with various nurse specialty trade groups at conventions during the year, and we’re watching the ongoing reform discussion closely. also, please check out our blog when you get a chance!
