Health Care: What is Affordable

Editor’s note: As has been reported here before, there is no operational definition of what is affordable health care. Clearly a large number of people have chosen not to purchase health care. They do so, as they choose not to spend their disposal income on health care insurance. Is it because they deem it unaffordable? How a nation decides what is affordable and then what level of support is required to deem it affordable is something for which there is no clear answer. To act or legislate to the contrary is a fool’s errand.

WASHINGTON — The major health care bills moving through Congress would require nearly all Americans to have health insurance. But as lawmakers struggle to achieve the goal of universal coverage, a critical question is whether the plans will be affordable to those who are currently uninsured.
