Health care costs: Patients have a responsibility

Prescription noncompliance costs U.S. $290B a year
A new study found patients who don’t comply with prescription drug regimens recommended by their physicians cost the U.S. health care system about $290 billion a year. The New England Healthcare Institute data showed one-third to one-half of patients don’t properly follow prescription orders, which can put patients at risk of illness and hospitalization.
