‘Public Option’ in Health Plan May Be Dropped

Editor’s note: The American public needs to continue to ask the tough questions of Congress and the White House. The following NYTimes article raises additional questions. Let’s suppose the White House does drop its call for a public plan. And let’s suppose that in the words of the President is only a sliver of  health reform.

You have to seriously question whether the White House and Congress have taken the time to understand what ALL the pieces of their reform package taken as a whole will mean to the US health care system, how it will operate and function post reform and what the unintended consequences will be of the legislated changes.

Somehow dropping a part here, changing a piece there in the heat of the argument doesn’t give me confidence.

PHOENIX — The White House, facing increasing skepticism over President Obama’s call for a public insurance plan to compete with the private sector, signaled Sunday that it was willing to compromise and would consider a proposal for a nonprofit health cooperative being developed in the Senate.
