Health Care: How Will Payment Work

Editor’s note: It is important that consumers and purchasers have a strong voice in any health reform that occurs in the US.

Consumer, Labor and Purchasers groups commented on Medicare Payment and Reporting Policies.  In a blog with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Peter Lee highlights how the comment letters submitted to CMS on the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule and the Medicare Hospital Outpatient Quality Data Reporting Program embody the “devil’s in the details” importance of being active in advocacy not only in Congress (http://rwjfblogs.typepad.com/healthreform/  Note: link will be “live” by the afternoon of September 8th.).  These letters – with broad consumer, labor and employer support – underscore the need align payment to promote value versus volume, get better greater consumer and purchaser participation in developing reimbursement strategies for physicians, and rapidly advance the public reporting of measures that matter (with an emphasis on outcomes, functional status, and care coordination).
