Fee for Care vs. Fee for Service

Editor’s note: The future is pay for care, versus the current pay for service model health care currently operates under. That isn’t to say that there isn’t room for fee for services. Certain services, perhaps those characterized by one time events are appropriate. Those that are part of health CARE should be characterized by fee for care payments.

Bundled provider payments seen as way to reduce costs
Bundled provider payments are getting attention in the health care reform debate as a way to encourage physicians and hospitals to work together to improve efficiency and reduce costs. Medicare pilot programs are paying hospitals and physicians just one reimbursement for all care provided to certain patients, such as those receiving heart or joint procedures. USA TODAY (10/26)
