Healthcare: The Facts Ma’am, Just the Facts

Editor’s note: Being deficit neutral is not the same thing as cost neutral. In fact, the legislation is raising taxes to pay for the bill. When they say the bill as scored by CBO reduces the deficit approximately $80 billion over 10 years that is AFTER they spend an additional $1.2 trillion.

I give them credit for being open about the costs, but are they communicating in a way that the American people truly understand the implications?

ABC World News (11/9, story 4, 4;00, Gibson) ran excerpts of White House correspondent Jake Tapper’s interview with the President, who said, “I actually have said that it is important for us to make sure this thing is deficit-neutral without tricks. I said I wouldn’t sign a bill that didn’t meet that criteria. … Congress needs to know that when I say this needs to be deficit neutral, I mean it.”
